With the exception of seasoned global business travellers, going abroad is a very exciting prospect for most people, especially if it is for a long-awaited holiday.

In consequence, choosing outfits to pack and saving up plenty of spending money are likely to be the top two items on most people’s lists. Probably the last things on that same checklist are the ‘boring’ financial details.

Regrettably, some important steps are often overlooked. These include travel insurance, the ability to keep in touch with finances at home and having a contingency plan should things not go exactly according to expectations.

So, what is important and why? The most critical concerns ought to be travel insurance, internet banking and personal or financial contingency measures.

Travel Insurance

First on the list always has to be a good travel insurance policy. Time should always be taken to find the most suitable cover available rather than the cheapest option.

As an example, those intending to indulge in any form of sport or recreation that is considered ‘extreme’ or ‘dangerous’ are unlikely to be covered by standard travel insurance. An extension (or perhaps another type of policy) may be required.

Finding the right travel insurance policy to suit individual needs is much easier at the moment with so many price comparison websites available to help out with the choice. This is a very important matter; quality should never be compromised for cost.

Internet Banking

Many people, especially those belonging to the older generations, do not see the importance of having an easy connection to their finances when they are travelling abroad. In certain parts of the world, phone connections are limited and may not be as good as the available internet options, which could gain access to much-needed funds in an emergency.

It is most certainly worth taking the time to compare internet banking accounts and arrange an online facility before travelling. Many banks now offer special consideration for travellers, including special rates for transactions when abroad.

The Contingency Plan

Contacting a person even when he is on the other side of the world is no longer difficult and it is easy to keep in touch with friends and family via the internet no matter where they happen to be located.

Before departing on a foreign adventure, travellers should always have at least one reliable and trusted contact at home who can help out in a crisis. No matter what the cause or consequence, there should always be someone who is competent to assist with financial or personal problems.

In summary, a good travel insurance policy will cover most eventualities abroad, taking the time to compare internet banking accounts can make life easier and having a ‘personal back-up’ at home covers just about everything else.

Dealing with financial, health or personal problems when in another country can be extremely complicated for anyone who has not prepared for them. These matters are important and their importance should be reflected on every traveller’s to-do list.

From time to time, tourists who come see New York City feel the need to relax after a long day on the road. The most convenient solution for them is the parks. There are plenty of parks in New York, from the famous Central Park to the smaller and more intimate gardens and parks.

The visitors can go in one of these parks with a good book or their MP4 player and just have a peaceful time. The best park in New York City is without any doubt Central Park. Besides being so famous all around the world, it also features tons of entertainment areas. This park covers an area of 843 acres and it’s located in Manhattan, the “cool” borough of NYC. Central Park dates from 1859 when it was designed by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmstead. It features 7 water bodies, natural beauty, big open spaces and lush greenery. It’s the perfect place to have a picnic and spend an entire day with friends and family.

In Manhattan, tourists will also find Bryant Park. They can come here whenever they feel overwhelmed by the crowded streets surrounding the park. Bryant Park is situated near the New York Public Library. The visitors love this park because it features numerous events like ice skating, Broadway in Bryant Park and outdoor film screening.

The landscape designers of the beautiful Central Park have also created the Prospect Park in the 60s. The visitors can see this splendid park in Brooklyn. It has 585 acres and features numerous events during the summer months. Some of the most remarkable are “Metropolitan Opera in the Park” and “Philharmonic in the Park”. Moreover, at New Year’s Eve there is a big celebration in Prospect Park.

A park that shouldn’t be missed and that is a true landmark is Washington Square Park. It was established in 1828 but before that it was a parade ground, an execution site and a cemetery.

The Washington Arch is the main attraction of the site. It was created by Stanford White in 1885. Another historical and important park is Union Square Park. This location is bordered by Union Square West and Union Square East and it shelters the well known Greenmarket, one of the largest markets in New York. The park also features free events such as dance performances, yoga and concerts. The visitors can choose between having a picnic and taking a walking tour.

Everybody knows the Madison Avenue. The Madison Square Park is as renowned as the avenue itself. This gorgeous park is located between the famous Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue. It was established in 1847. The visitors usually love the burgers they serve on certain locations within the park. They also like the public programs available here each evening.

The High Line, Brooklyn Bridge Park and Hudson River Park are also extremely beautiful and make great oasis. Thus, the visitors have plenty of green places to choose from. They can go there to relax all day long before a night in the club.

So you are a little fed up with the same old holiday destinations in the Mediterranean and the US, and instead would like to go somewhere that may not be thought of as firstly and fore-mostly a holiday hotspot. Well here are 3 surprising destinations for 2012.

Cuba
Before 1959, Cuba was a popular tourist destination especially for Americans, however, come the communist revolution and things suddenly changed. America sanctioned trade embargoes and tourism in Cuba became solely for the Cubans. However in the 1990′s the country began to open its doors again to foreign tourists especially Europeans, Canadians and more recently Americans, so holidays to Cuba have become more popular. Places such as Varadero Holguin and Havana are more geared to tourists, but step off the beaten track and it is still possible to stay in Casas particulares (a room in the house of a Cuban Family for small change per night). As a result of its past, Cuba offers great value for money, and if you like your holiday destinations a little rough around the edges, then this is the place for you.

Tanzania
The Serengeti, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar are names that are synonymous with everything stunning about the continent of Africa, and they are all packed into one country…. Tanzania. Unlike other African tourist destinations such as Kenya, it has kept itself relatively low key other than Tanzania volunteer programs and some gap year visitors. With so much to offer, it’s hard to see why. You can see fantastic wildlife on the plains of the Serengeti, or take a hot air balloon ride at dawn to watch the sunrise over Mount Kilimanjaro, or if you want to experience a get away from it all paradise, then 36 miles off the coast lies Zanzibar. Tanzania is putting itself on the tourist map, so go and experience it before everyone else does.

Greenland
If you really want a holiday with a difference, then why not pay a visit to Greenland. With only 55,000 inhabitants and the largest island in the world it is also the least densely populated country in the world. During the summer months take in the pure air and clear blue skies. There are also plenty of activities such as cruising down the Fjords amidst stunning mountains and waterfalls, cycling, walking and fishing. The winter brings with it a whole new concept as for 6 months of the year Greenland is a winter paradise, where you can go tobogganing, sledding, trekking and ice fishing. Alternatively, if you want to see something really spectacular, Greenland has the world’s best view of the stunning Northern Lights in the autumn and winter months. In essence Greenland is an unspoilt paradise where the people are friendly and the scenery is breathtaking.

Champagne is one of the most historical provinces in France, but its roots go back to Italy. Indeed, the name Champagne is derived from the Latin ‘campania’, the area of Italian countryside Champagne it bears a strong resemblance to.

It is not its historical significance that Champagne is famous for, however, but sparkling, dry white wine. Yes, Champagne is home to perhaps the most luxurious beverage of them all, but there’s plenty more to the province than its most famous export should you and your party decide to visit…

The biggest cities in Champagne are Troyes, Reims and Epernay. All three have their perks and a unique personality. Troyes has a number of museums including the museum and hosiery (!) as well as St Remy Church, which features a clock with only one hand.

Some consider Reims the unofficial capital of Champagne, and with statues of French icons such as Louis XV and Joan of Arc, it’s easy to see why. It also houses the impressive Notre-Dame de Reims, a cathedral with roots stretching all the way back to AD 496.

Epernay is more closely associated with champagne sparkling wine than any other city in the region. It features the Avenue de Champagne, where the leading champagne manufacturers develop the drink to bottling and storing it in large chalk rock cellars beneath the city. It’s something that really does need to be seen to be believed!

Don’t think a trip to Champagne is all about visiting cities; there’s a lot to do for outdoorsy types. With so much countryside and a plethora of parks to visit, Champagne offers fitness freaks and those who love a breath of fresh air the chance to stretch their legs with a long walk or even a jog.

La Croix Du Vieux Pont is a holiday park that brings together both the outdoor break and the hustle and bustle of a city break. It features everything a party would need to truly relax on-site, including heated outdoor spa pools, fishing, bowling and football.

It’s not all about luxury at La Croix Du Vieux Pont, however, as the facilities the park offers are top notch. There are washing and drying facilities, safety deposit boxes, internet access, a supermarket with bakery, and a restaurant and bar terrace where parties can relax at the end of a busy day.
Champagne is one of the most impressive areas in all of France. Be sure to check it out!

Ibiza is without a doubt one of the most well known holiday destinations in the world. With a well known night-life and club scene, the island is very prominent with younger tourists throughout the summer and there are many reasons to visit this Spanish island. In addition to the clubbing aspect, there are some beautiful beaches and great weather to be taken advantage of.

The night life

The night life is, of course, the main appeal of Ibiza. When you consider holidays Ibiza most people will automatically think of the number of music clubs, discos and bars which characterise the island.

The music scene in Ibiza has always been strong, with a larger emphasis towards dance music; notably this revolves around house trance and techno. The island is literally riddled with big name clubs that get some of the biggest DJs and music producers year in, year out.

In more recent years, however, the island has attempted to become more diverse. Ibiza Rocks hotel is an example of a variation on the Ibiza theme. Focusing on rock music instead, the hotel offers a different music sample to the big-name clubs whilst still drawing in big name bands and crowd pleasers.

Beaches and countryside

Of course, the night life isn’t everything and as part of the Balearic Islands, Ibiza has a very beautiful landscape.

As an island, its long stretches of endless coastline are very noticeable and the sandy beaches prove popular attractions to relax or party upon. Of course, the more popular beaches can be crowded in the summer and this means Ibiza is an island where, if you wish to relax, it pays to venture away from the traditional hot-spots.

Likewise, the inland regions offer wonderful scenery and countryside. If you want a break from the busy city or night life, then venturing into the wonderful Mediterranean climate is highly recommended. Away from the main tourism areas, it can be easy to forget how tourist-based the island is and soak in more of the traditional, local atmosphere.

Other activities

Additionally, there are a few other attractions that might pick your interest. The island still holds a strong Mediterranean culture and has wharf side festivals and markets that have a lot to offer. The markets are alive in colour, selling various herbs and spices that create a unique aroma. Many holiday makers spend the day here, finding various things to buy, from scented soaps to local wood carvings. This is a very gentle way to spend the day and can prove very relaxing and interesting at the same time.

In short, if you’re looking for somewhere to spend your summer 2012 holiday, then Ibiza is a sure competitor. With wonderful Mediterranean weather and climates, combined with an ever-popular club scene, Ibiza has a lot to offer the average holiday maker. Between the fast paced nights and the slower, more relaxing day time, there is something for everyone to do on this popular Mediterranean paradise.

Just the name, Wales suggests a country of beauty and majestic landscapes. It suggests peaceful tranquillity and a rest for the weary traveller. Wales is right at the top of the list of holiday destinations at least once in a lifetime, as Wales is a country rich in history and beauty. If one is planning on a trip to Wales they are in for a wonderful adventure.

Wales is host to Roman forts and age old amphitheatres with their structures fashioned after medieval times. If one enjoys touring ancient castles that have left their mark on the history of Wales, this is where to tour. Castles such as Dolwyddelan Castle give the tourist an idea of what is in store for them during their time in Wales.

Part of Wales is taken up with the Berwyn range. This range sits in a lovely remote eco-friendly area that many species of bird, such as, marlins, owls, falcons and ravens call their sanctuary. The Berwyn range is a protected environmental area. Take lots of pictures; however one will have a difficult time capturing its splendour.

Travelling Wales offers the guest many sights to choose from. One of these sights is the city of Wrexham. Archaeologists have dated this area of Wales nearly 8,000 years BC, with evidence of inhabitants. Wrexham is very photogenic and overflows with quaint pubs, old mills, ancient abbeys and more castles to tour.

Each guest comes to Wales for differing reasons. Swansea is another old and very quaint city, known for water activities and sports around its alluring coastal lines. Its existence surrounds the waterfront and marine life. Nightlife in Swansea is very active on Wind Street. The city has beautiful beaches to play or just rest and relax. For those who inhabit Swansea, life could not get any better.

If the traveller is interested in ancient history, Wales has a wealth of such history. Anglesey is where one would visit Celtic stone monuments. This area has Roman fortifications in abundance. And, unbeknown to most there are stone circles left standing for centuries throughout the countryside.

Not enough can be said about the beautiful Wales countryside and their claim to the numerous ancient castles calling the guest to explore. Each castle has individuality and a history of its own.

Every country has its metro area and Cardiff claims this title of capital. Cardiff is host to many ancient castles and ruins. Rugby, being the national sport is played at Millennium Stadium. There are numerous quaint shops where beautiful and high quality items are available for sale. Cardiff has earned the name of being the cultural area, drawing into its life numerous festivals including The Cardiff Music Festival. While in Cardiff one needs to be sure to take in The Welsh National Opera and the National Orchestra of Wales. There are three beautiful, pristine, and award winning parks in Cardiff, Bute, Victoria, and Roath. Spending an afternoon in one of these or all of these parks will refresh the spirit. When visiting Wales the recommended city to find accommodations is in the city of Cardiff. Hotels in the Welsh capital are plentiful. Each and every accommodation site will cater to their guests with impeccable service.

Although this coastal fishing town in the South of France in the Var region sounds like it is a home to lavender, it finds its real fame from the 12 beaches on the coast along the Corniches of Maures with their different coloured sands and each with a variety of water activities from sailing to wind-surfing. With a colourful selection of shops and cafes to be found on the narrow and winding streets leading (sometimes steeply), from the quayside there is always the familiar sight of lavender based products from stems of dried lavender to medicinal oils and there are plenty of flower themed souvenirs in the craft shops originating from the many other wild flowers growing in the area.

The town of Le Lavandou

Le Lavandou’s name is thought to have derived not from the plant itself but more likely from the word “lavoir” – a place where the women from the local villages would wash their linen. Further inland lavender can be found in abundance within a half an hour drive, but nowadays this bustling little town, rebuilt after the war, is more popular for its varied selection of activities along with fishing. Early risers will be lucky enough to catch the fishermen hauling their catch to the shore with the intention of the fresh seafood being on the menu locally before lunchtime and along with honey and olives as a speciality dining out is relaxed and very traditional experience.

Many visitors are attracted to the area to coincide with the large festival of flowers where not only the mimosa from nearby flower filled Bournes de Mimosas but every other plant local to the region is festooned and celebrated. Held in March, the population of the town swells from just over 5,000 to more than 20,000 spectators and a grand procession of floats, all decorated lavishly with mimosas and lavender liven up the little town with great excitement to the locals as well as visitors. Wild flower seeds have created a picturesque area of natural beauty in the Maures hills a short drive away, so staying in Le Lavandou provides a little of both nature and man-made ventures to suit everyone. The Var region is popular for meandering walks through ancient villages surrounded by pine forests, and spectacular views of natural beauty and historical sites are all an option away from the coastline, along with the Grand Canyon experience of Gorges of Verdon where the cascading water provides canoeing and rafting opportunities for those who dare.

With ferries available across to the The Iles d’Hyeres, Le Lavandou may not be as well known a destination as some of the more glamorous ones along the coast, but is fast becoming as popular and accommodation can start from as little as 100 Euros to 400 per night.

Le Lavandou has the buzz of a typical seaside town with the spectacular views of flowers in their natural habitat only a short distance away and is often therefore considered a gateway to the rest of the Cote d’Azur.

You want to go on a trip or journey but nobody wants to join you. Your friends do not have time or are too busy, with your parents you find it´s boring and your colleagues are not funny at all. What to do? Give up? Our opinion: no way! If you really want to go, you can travel alone. Sometimes it can be more interesting. You’d be surprised how many people travel alone around the world. Almost in any trip you will meet at least one solitary person.

Barcelona is one of those places where you will never get bored and you will always find a place for any activity you want. It is one of the most touristic cities in Europe, where you will find a huge number of international people and also some solitary travel that you might like and enjoy some company. There are a lot of places to see, where you can socialize or where to spend some time with yourself.

Believe it or not you might find a lot more satisfaction on traveling alone, than with more people. Barcelona it might offer you the vacation that you where looking for. If you are the kind of person that likes the history, civilization and visiting, there are many places that you will find spectacular.

One of the best things when you travel alone, is that you can do whatever you what, whenever you want and you do not have to depend on nobody´s mood or tastes. You can make your own itinerary and not be forced to depend on the others. You can either spend some time alone and relax nor go and meet new people, because that is one of the things that Barcelona can give you.
Some of the places that you do not want to miss:

The unique Sagrada Familia, that is one of the most impressive sights that one can see. This beautiful church impresses by its grandeur and originality of the architecture. All church ornaments are inspired by nature, making it pleasant sight of all eyes.

Barcelona is full of Gaudi’s creations. The style inspires originality, freedom, beauty, naturalness, majesty, color explosion. Both Sagrada Familia, Park Guell shows how talented and creative was Gaudi. For us, the architect Gaudi became our favorite.

If you are in Barcelona, you definitely have to try the traditional Spanish food, and tapas are the most popular. You can find tapas in the most of the restaurants where you will find a very international atmosphere and you will have the chance to meet a lot of people. Another way of getting to know the city and the people is going out. One of the first things that you have to know about Barcelona is that is one of those cities that never sleeps. The night life here is very exposed and you do not need to worry about the fact that you are alone. If you are carefull you can have a great experience. Clubs in Barcelona are varied in terms of musical style, but we believe the best is to go to a club with Latin music. Most clubs are found in Barceloneta, on the beach, but not only.

If you are planning a trip and you did not find a partener yet, do not worry. You can always plan a trip alone, and Barcelona is your best destination. You can check out: Barcelona apartments to rent and properties Barcelona.

In recent years the trend of renting a luxury property in the shape of a villa or cottage has increased in popularity. The increased popularity of the Internet has allowed many private property owners to post their villas on line. Others have chosen to use travel boards and other means to post their details. The result is the same. Holidaymakers nowadays find these locations with a click of a button and are able to compare spec and prices quicker than ever.

For many European tourists France villas and in particular villas in the South of the country offer a stunning location that is just a short journey away by car, ferry, flight or even using the Eurostar. If you are considering renting a luxury holiday home for your next vacation, here are a few benefits that would come from renting in France.

Enjoy spectacular cuisine – France in well known for its delicious cuisine and the south of France is always associated with great wine. The country still retains its rural history in the shape of small villages that could offer you and your party some of the best foods and drinks to be found. Even if you are not a great wine drinker, simply walking between its vineyards feels special.

Easy to get to – There are many destinations that offer high level of accommodation and may tick all the right boxes for you, however you should always consider the ease (or not) of getting to and around during your stay. France offers modern transportation and hiring a car to get about during your stay is very affordable. Before making your booking, do take the time to research how you intend to arrive and whether you will require any form of transportation to get around. Some locations have better public transportation than others and some properties are closer to main towns than others. Most villa listing will also include a map of the local areas that you should study before making your decision.

Be your own boss – During the season as the days get longer and longer you may wish to spend more time outdoors exploring the local areas or even just relaxing from the rat race of life. Unlike other forms of accommodation, you are not bound to a certain timetable. Having your own holiday home means that you are free to wine and dine at your leisure or jump into your private pool for a relaxing swim.

Well balanced location – France offers the perfect balance between character stone build cottages located in charming villages to seaside resorts offering you a chance to engage your water sport activities or just put our feet up and enjoy the sun while working on your tan. The most popular locations are Dordogne, Provence, Bearn and Landes, the Lot Valley, Languedoc and the Atlantic Coast provinces of France that offers anything from a rural retreat to sandy beaches.

Relaxed documentation – Different locations require different levels of legal documentations to enter the country, which could prove quite a time consuming struggle in some places. France due to its European membership only requires a valid passport from citizens of other EU members.

Dublin may be Ireland’s premier city, but the price of a trip may be off putting to some, especially since the cost of drinks and entrance fees can be considerable in some of Dublin’s tourist-driven areas. Luckily, not everything in Ireland’s capital is expensive. You can find flights to Dublin from most of the UK’s major airports nowadays at a low price thanks to the introduction of budget airlines, and if you want to keep your costs down whilst you’re away, here’s a guide to some cheap or free things to do in the city of Dublin.

Walking is always free wherever you are and what better way to see a new city than to explore on foot? Dublin lends itself particularly well to walking tours because there are a few different themes you can stick to in order to arrange the sights you see and the places you visit. You could try a literary tour, for example, given that Dublin has produced so many famed writers and poets.

Some venues such as the James Joyce Cultural Centre and the Dublin Writer’s Museum, which contain artefacts and copies of manuscripts connected to Dublin authors, may have a small admission charge.

Meanwhile, other attractions with literary relevance are free. For instance, you can wander down past the General Post Office, scene of the Easter Rising in 1916 which inspired poems by WB Yeats. A good place to end is Trinity College, where many literary alumni studied.

You’ll need to travel a bit to get there, but Howth Harbour might well be worth it. It’s a working harbour and you’ll see fishermen with their catches. The place is also ideal for a stroll along the pier.

Alternatively, you can then scale the nearby cliffs for a more adventurous route. A meal at one of the maritime-themed restaurants at the harbour completes this trip.

You’d probably find buskers in every town, but in Dublin there’s something to be said for taking the time to listen to the guitarists, fiddlers and even melodeon players that frequent the city’s streets. The Irish have a certain gift for music and Dublin’s buskers appear across the city in areas such as Grafton Street, enchanting passers by with folk tunes and more modern numbers.

Irish pubs are also a good source of musical entertainment – head to the Temple Bar area in the evening and your night out need only cost the price of a few pints of Guinness.

If you’re a bit of a culture vulture, you’ll probably want to check out the art galleries and museums Dublin has to offer. Fortunately, a number of the big galleries in the city are free to enter. Try the National Gallery, which concentrates on Irish artists as well as popular superstars of the art world such as Monet and Caravaggio.

At the Irish Museum of Modern Art, you will find more in the way of contemporary works. The Museum is not limited to paintings either, with exhibitions featuring sculpture and photography collections found here as well.

A glimpse into how the powerful live can be had at the Áras an Uachtaráin. This is where the Irish President lives and it’s only open on a Saturday, so grab a ticket at the Visitor Centre at Phoenix Park for this day out.

At the house you can see a number of function rooms and other types of rooms, as well as take a stroll around the grounds.

The Áras an Uachtaráin was actually built in 1751 and wasn’t always designed for its present purpose. In 1938, it became the residence of the Irish President, but before that it was the household of the Viceroys.

Many cities feature memorial gardens, but Dublin’s are especially well known. Walking in the gardens is an opportunity to remember the Irish fallen of the Great War of 1914 to 1918.

Not only this, but the gardens are scenic and peaceful and you can admire the designs envisioned by Sir Edwin Lutyens, a noted architect.

Even the tombs here have a beauty to them and reading the names on each stone as you walk past makes for a thought provoking and reflective afternoon.

As you can see, you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a weekend break in Dublin, so get on the lookout to try and find some cheap Dublin hotels to help reduce the cost of your trip even further.
